Yard trees

We’re thrilled that you want to help build Charlotte’s tree canopy. You’ve come to the right spot. We have two primary ways you can trees to plant at your own home:

Buy one and get it shipped to your home

If you want to buy a tree right now and want a wide variety of species, check out our retail partner, Fast-Growing Trees. This Fort-Mill based company has a large catalogue of trees. Simply order online and FGT will box and ship your tree to you. (These make great gifts, btw!) The best part: A portion of the proceeds benefits TreesCharlotte, so your purchase will not only build canopy in your yard, it will help all Charlotteans!

Pick up two trees at a TreesCharlotte Tree Adoption

We’re working on a whole new slate of tree adoptions (formerly called TreeStores) that will begin in October 2021 and run through March 22. Expect to see several Citywide Tree Giveaways, many more First-Timer Giveaways and giveaways for every zip code.

About Tree Adoptions:

  •  Two trees per address.
  • TreesCharlotte’s mission is to help the City of Charlotte reach their goal of 50% tree canopy by 2050.  We therefore limit our efforts to expand the canopy within Charlotte’s city limits and limit participation to Charlotte residents only (unfortunately, we do not serve Matthews, Mint Hill, Pineville, Huntersville, Davidson, Cornelius, other municipalities outside Charlotte, or Mecklenburg County).
  • Proof of Charlotte residency (such as a driver’s license, utility bill, etc.) may be required on the day of the event.
  • You will complete and sign a Stewardship Pledge Form (mandatory) and declare your pledge to take care of the tree(s) we provide.
  • During the giveaway, you will be shown how to properly plant and care for your tree(s).  Tree education is mandatory for everyone.
  • You will need to pre-select your species ahead of time, we cannot guarantee species type or quantities day-of the event. We will, however, make all efforts to sub in a comparable tree.
  • Trees are in 7-gallon containers, range from 6-10′ tall, and will not be reserved or transported.
