Trees are the longest-living organisms on Earth.
Magnolias are one of the oldest tree species on Earth and used to kick it with dinosaurs.
Trees “talk” to each other through the mycorrhizal (roots and fungi) network.
Tree stumps can still be living, even long after they’ve been chopped down.
Trees will transfer resources to one another to help their friends in need.
Plants – including trees – can make airborne sounds when they are stressed.
80% of land-dwelling species rely on forests to survive.
CHARLOTTE WITHOUT TREES?
That's like BBQ without the slaw.
That's like Uptown without bankers.
That's like South End without the breweries.
Geez.
That's like NoDa without the cool kids.
That's like SouthPark without the shopping.
That's like Lake Norman without boat parties.
TREES PROVIDE MORE THAN JUST SHADE.
They make us healthier
Studies show trees lower blood pressure, reduce stress, increase focus, and improve mood. Patients with a view of trees recover from surgery faster. Trees around schools improve children’s ability to learn and put them in touch with nature.
Good for water, air & animals
Forested watersheds provide quality drinking water to millions of Americans. Trees remove harmful pollutants like sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, and particulate matter from the air. Did you know 80% of land-dwelling species rely on forests to survive?
Improve property values & energy efficiency
Studies and data show that homes with trees sell for more and faster. Just one healthy, mature tree can have an appraisal value of up to $10,000. If strategically placed, those trees provide cooling in hotter months and a wind break during winter, reducing electricity use.
They’re good for business
Business districts and shopping centers with high canopy cover attract more consumers than those with lesser canopy coverage.
Encourage better driving
When planted in the right locations, trees make roads safer. Tree-lined streets have fewer occurrences of speeding, road rage and accidents. A 2006 study found that using trees to line roadways could decrease average speeds by 8 mph.
