This season, TreesCharlotte is partnering with its first homebuilder, PulteGroup, the parent company of Pulte Homes, at two different planting events in the Woodbury community in East Charlotte, near I-485 and Albemarle Road.
On Thurs., Oct. 29, about 100 Pulte employees gathered at the Woodbury amenity building to plant 235 trees in the neighborhood’s common area. TreesCharlotte provided the trees – supported by a generous donation from PulteGroup – while Pulte’s landscape architect designed the planting project. Pulte augered the holes and continues to care for the trees after planting.
“We are very excited for PulteGroup to be the first homebuilder we’ve partnered with,” said Dave Cable, executive director of TreesCharlotte. “We encourage homebuilders and developers to preserve trees when possible and replace trees that are removed. We are grateful for Pulte’s contribution to our mission by donating trees, tools and volunteers for our planting event.”
As a follow-up to the October planting, on Sat., Dec. 5, residents from the Woodbury community gathered to learn about how to plant and care for trees and could select up to three trees per property for planting in yards. Similar to other NeighborWoods events, each resident signed a stewardship pledge form committing the family to care for the tree, including regular watering. Residents also had the opportunity to name the trees in honor or in memory of a family member or friend. Another 340 trees were given away at the December event.
“We are pleased to be partnering with TreesCharlotte,” says Jon Cherry, division president of the Company’s Charlotte Division. “PulteGroup’s responsibility is not just to build homes, but to build and improve communities and positively impact the lives of our neighbors. We are excited about rolling up our sleeves and planting trees to enhance and protect the area’s green space.”
