#137 Water Oak (Quercus nigra)
This large tree stands in the front yard of a private home near Freedom Park, just a few doors down from an original Treasure Tree. Older water oaks begin to develop massive buttressing around the trunk base, which is clearly evident on this specimen.

Ecological Value: As the name suggests, water oaks are more tolerant of wet soil than other oaks. They can be found along stream and river beds.
