#044 Oriental Arborvitae (Platycladus orientalus)
This Oriental Arborvitae was originally mis-identified by the original Treasure Tree committee as an Alaskan Cedar (#002). It is located onsite in the formal gardens at Historic Rosedale. According to the Historic Rosedale website, Mrs. Louise Heagy Davidson used the tree to divide her “little garden” from her “main garden.” The tree is believed to date back to the original owner of the house, Archibald Frew (1815).

Ecological Value: Once mature, Oriental Arborvitae trees have a high tolerance to disease and have few problems. Snow and ice can break the branches in winter.
