Arbor Day celebrates trees and their importance. The holiday’s founder, J. Sterling Morton, said: “Other holidays repose upon the past. Arbor Day proposes for the future.”

In recognition of North Carolina Arbor Day, TreesCharlotte collaborated with The Charlotte Tree Advisory Commission (CTAC) and Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools by planting a cherry tree on each of eight CMS school campuses on March 20th. Students also participated in the ceremonies with artwork, readings and jokes, learned about the benefits of trees and received their own seedlings.

Several trees were dedicated in honor or memory of school community members. Each school also received an Arbor Day Flag. CTAC representatives, members of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education and Charlotte City Council and special guests joined the festivities.

Please contact Tammy Seigel at tammy@treescharlotte.org if your school is interested in participating in next year’s Arbor Day Celebration.
