Thornhill NeighborWoods

October 24 2020

While TreesCharlotte strives to celebrate, expand, and protect the tree canopy in Charlotte, we also want to protect the health of our supporters, volunteers, and partners from risks associated with COVID-19.  We appreciate your continued interest in volunteering with us even in these difficult times. Please read through our new event protocols here before registering.

Having completed a NeighborWoods Application  TreesCharlotte is pleased to partner with the Thornhill neighborhood to plant trees in their common areas and to provide trees to their residents.  Volunteers, please scroll to the end for details.

We will conduct a drive-thru TreeStore at the Thornhill pool parking lot on Sat, Oct 24, for residents to pick up and plant trees in their own yards! What a great way to add more shade and beauty to your neighborhood.

Residents, here’s what you need to know:

  • Each Thornhill household can get up to 3 trees, with a limit of 2 of the same species per household.
  • You must pre-register for the trees. Registration opens at 12:01am, Fri, Oct 16 (link will be below available species) and closes at 11:59pm, Tues, Oct 20.
  • The cost is $10/tree (plus fees). Each tree comes with a bag of mulch.
  • You will need to pick up your trees at the Thornhill Pool, on Sat, Oct 24, between 9-10:00 a.m. This will be a largely drive-through event to limit personal contact and you will be expected to load your own trees and mulch. If you cannot make this window, please make arrangements with a neighbor to get your trees.
  • About the trees: The trees are in 7-gallon containers, measure 6-15 feet tall, and weigh about 20-25 pounds. The mulch weighs 25 pounds/bag.  Links will be provided below to learn more about each species; please do your homework first to ensure you’re putting the right tree in the right place.  Once registered, your selections are final.
  • TreesCharlotte will send a follow-up email with planting instructions – including a planting video – watering instructions and specific information about the species you select. Tree planting is not provided.

Once we know which species will be available, they’ll be listed here, along with the link to register.

We are recruiting 40 volunteers and 14 TreeMasters to help plant trees in the common areas and manage the TreeStore the morning of Oct 24.  Register early as our events “sell-out” quickly. 40 spots remain

Tree planting events are great for families and all ages are welcome. To ensure we operate within State and CDC guidelines, we cannot accept walk-up volunteers at the event. Children 16 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Volunteer groups of 10 or more, please contact events director, Zack Agerton to determine if there is enough capacity.

Events are held rain or shine. Details of the event will be emailed to registered volunteers the week of the event.

Deadline to register to volunteer is Sunday, October 18.
