Community Orchard

October 15, 2016, 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM

TreesCharlotte is partnering with Mecklenburg County Health Department, Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, NC Cooperative Extension, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, and Rosa Parks Farmers Market Community Advisory Council to plant 22 fruit trees in Northwest Charlotte.

The purpose of the initiative is to develop an urban orchard in an effort to increase access and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables for residents in the Northwest Corridor of Mecklenburg County. The orchard will be on the property of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and will be part of a Mecklenburg County Park that is being developed on that site. Fruit trees will be planted and harvested by Friendship Missionary Baptist Church parishioners and residents of communities surrounding the church. Food will be distributed according to criteria which is still being developed. Ultimately, the program could be used as a template for other faith-based organizations to begin similar initiatives.

We love our volunteers, however, general volunteers are not needed for this event.  Please check the events calendar for other volunteer opportunities.
