Thank you for taking the pledge to care for Charlotte’s tree canopy with TreesCharlotte! We’ve created this resource guide with workable links to help you complete your annual pledge. The links below will take you to in depth educational resources to guide you through any projects you pledge to do this year. Homeowner Pledge:
- Remove and replace invasive trees on my property and control invasive vines such as English Ivy, Wisteria, and Kudzu.
- Maintain tree health by mulching annually, conducting proper pruning, and enlisting an ISA Certified Arborist to assess the health of large, mature trees.
- Plant at least one new tree on my property if space allows.
- Ensure tree protection during renovations or construction using an ISA-certified Arborist throughout the process.
- Seek opportunities to plant more trees in my neighborhood. Enlist TreesCharlotte to help!
Renter Pledge:
- Prevent tree damage on the property and promptly report any tree-related concerns to my landlord or property management. Help find an ISA-certified arborist to help with regular tree maintenance.
- Seek opportunities to plant more trees at my rental property or neighborhood. Enlist TreesCharlotte to help!
- Work with my landlord or property manager to identify and address invasive vines like English Ivy, Wisteria, and Kudzu.
- Create a porch pollinator garden to support our urban forest and the pollination of our native trees. If I have the room, I’ll add a tree seedling or two!
Student Pledge:
- Join or start an environmental club at school and help educate others on the benefits of trees. Invite TreesCharlotte to come to speak to my class or club!
- Work with my parents or caregivers to plant a new tree at home if space allows.
- Share resources with my parents or caregivers on tree care basics, such as proper mulching, pruning, and using an ISA-certified arborist to check on the health of our trees.
- Work with my school’s environmental club to find opportunities to plant more trees on our campus. Ask TreesCharlotte to help!
- Support TreesCharlotte by becoming a volunteer.
Business Owner & Community Leader Pledge:
- Remove and replace invasive trees and control invasive vines like English Ivy, Wisteria, and Kudzu on my commercial property or in common areas of my community.
- Implement basic tree care practices such as annual mulching, proper structural pruning, and removing stakes, ropes, and tags from existing trees. Enlist an ISA-certified arborist to assess the health of large, mature trees.
- If space allows, plant at least one new tree on my property or community common areas. Ask TreesCharlotte to help!
- For any renovations, ensure a sufficient tree protection area for existing trees and enlist an ISA-certified arborist to care for them during the construction process.
Developer, Builder, & Contractor Pledge:
- Manage a long-lasting tree care program for new builds or existing developments. This includes annual mulching, proper pruning, removing stakes, ropes, and tags from existing trees after one year, and employing an ISA-certified Arborist to assess the health of large, mature trees each year.
- If space allows, plant more trees than what is required by Charlotte’s UDO (Article 20: Landscaping, Screening, & Tree Protection). Enlist TreesCharlotte to help!
- Develop with trees in mind. Create site plans that leave space for a tree protection area, including as many large, mature trees and conservation easements as possible. Maximize green space as much as possible.
- Educate staff on the value of trees and how to properly manage and care for a tree protection area. Enlist TreesCharlotte to help!
Landscaper & Gardener Pledge:
- Create a long-lasting tree care program for all properties that I care for, including annual mulching, proper pruning, removing stakes, ropes, and tags from existing trees after one year, and enlisting an ISA-certified Arborist annually to assess the health of large, mature trees.
- Work with property owners to remove and replace invasive trees and manage invasive vines like English Ivy, Wisteria, and Kudzu.
- If space allows, work with property owners to plant more trees!
- Educate staff on the value of trees, how to properly use landscaping tools around trees, and how to safely prune small trees to avoid irreparable pruning blunders. Enlist TreesCharlotte to help!
- Work with property owners to create pollinator gardens to support our urban forest and the pollination of our native trees.
