Celebrate Arbor Day in your own back yard by planting a tree. Or join the City of Charlotte as it plants a Tulip Poplar tree at Alexander Graham Middle School (1800 Runnymede Lane) at 9a.m. Friday.
J. Sterling Morton, president of the Nebraska State Board of Agriculture, founded Arbor Day in 1872. He once wrote, “While other holidays repose upon the past, Arbor Day proposes on the future.” Arbor Day is celebrated at different times in each state; in North Carolina, it always occurs on the first Friday after March 15.
The Tulip Poplar is the official state tree of Tennessee, Indiana and Kentucky. What’s your favorite state tree?
