Position Overview:
TreesCharlotte is seeking a passionate, energetic, and environmentally minded professional to serve as our Tree Care Assistant. This part-time, seasonal position is ideal for someone interested in environmental nonprofit work and hands-on arboriculture and tree care.
The Tree Care Assistant will support TreesCharlotte’s tree care efforts from April through November. The ideal candidate is comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions, getting their hands dirty and has experience driving large trucks and working with machinery is strongly preferred.
This role will work closely with the Urban Forest Manager to help maintain newly planted trees and support ongoing tree care programming at both past and future planting sites.
- Under the direction of the Urban Forest Manager, assist with TreesCharlotte’s watering program from April through November, including weekly watering of trees planted during the previous event season.
- Support maintenance at former and upcoming tree planting sites, including re-staking, conducting tree inventories, and performing site inspections.
- Assist with management and organization of inventory at the TreesCharlotte tree yard.
- Support general upkeep of trucks and trailers, including cleaning, basic maintenance, and organization.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record that meets insurance requirements.
- Experience driving large trucks and hitching trailers, or the ability to quickly learn.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including walking and standing for extended periods, lifting and moving materials up to 50 pounds.
- Access to reliable transportation.
- This position is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening.
- A love of trees and the desire to grow Mecklenburg County’s tree canopy!
Compensation & Scheduling
- Hourly wage commensurate with experience and aligned with the Charlotte market.
- Approximately 24 hours per week.
- Schedule flexibility available; work hours will fall between Monday–Thursday, 6:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m., with exact days and times to be determined.
- This is a seasonal position running from early April through the mid-to-end of November.
