As proclaimed by the Mayor of Charlotte, October is Charlotte Tree Month! Join us in celebrating all trees bring: shade, wildlife habitats, safer streets, cleaner air, mental and physical health benefits, and more by donating, volunteering, and following our calendar of action!
- Thursday, October 1: Download the PictureThis or the iNaturalist app and start IDing the trees and plants around you.
- Friday, October 2: Register for our TreeMapping event in Historic Hoskins and help us map trees in this Treesilience neighborhood.
- Saturday, October 3: We’ll be planting 161 trees in the Vermillion neighborhood, and we could use your help! Register here to volunteer.
- Sunday, October 4: Support TreesCharlotte by making a donation for October Tree Month.
- Monday, October 5: Collect a rainbow of autumn leaves and share with us your collection on Instagram!
- Tuesday, October 6: Subscribe to our newsletter to keep up on everything TreesCharlotte (and beyond).
- Wednesday, October 7: If you live in one of these zip codes – 28206, 28208, 28216, 28213,28214, 28205, 28212, 28217, 28273 – register for our Under-Canopied Zip Code TreeAdoption and adopt up to two FREE TREES, starting sharply at 10am. - Thursday, October 8: Learn how to become a tree advocate by reading through our TreeSpeakers digital toolkit.
- Friday, October 9: Did you know that less than 10% of Charlotteans know about TreesCharlotte? Help spread our mission by telling a friend (or two!) about TreesCharlotte.
- Saturday, October 10: We’re gearing up to plant 38 trees on the campus of Briarwood Academy. Register to help us plant trees at this event here.
- Sunday, October 11: Did you know that we host an environmental book club with quarterly socials? Check out our next book pick here and start reading to get ready for our social in December!
- Monday, October 12: Even mature trees need care. Learn some helpful hints for healthy trees here.
- Tuesday, October 13: We have many ways for businesses to partner with us! Ask your company to get involved by becoming one of our season partners.
- Wednesday, October 14: Know of a large tree in Mecklenburg County that deserves a bit of fame? Nominate it for our Treasure Trees program.
- Thursday, October 15: Is your newly planted tree getting enough water? It takes up to 2-3 years for a tree’s roots to get established. Until then, we recommend roughly 5-gallons of water a week. Check out more information on watering your tree here.
- Friday, October 16: Pruning trees is an art and a science. Learn best tricks and practices by becoming a TreeKeeper through our dedicated training program (next training hosted in January).
- Saturday, October 17: Thanks to our partnership with Atrium Health, we’ll be adopting out 600 trees to residents in Mecklenburg County’s most under-canopied zip codes. If you registered, we will see you there!
- Sunday, October 18: Invasive vines can wreak havoc on our trees. Here are some tips on how to mitigate vines on your trees.
- Monday, October 19: There’s so much to learn when it comes to our Treasure Trees program. Take a look through our Treasure Trees catalog to find some of Mecklenburg County’s largest trees, some of which are in public places to visit!
- Tuesday, October 20: Recurring donations of any size helps us continue to do the important work that we do. Consider becoming a sustaining donor through providing a monthly donation.
- Wednesday, October 21: Become a real “tree nerd” by identifying your own backyard trees or trees in your community. And then impress all of your friends with this newfound knowledge! If you find a rare or cool tree in this journey, tag us at @treesclt
- Thursday, October 22: It’s almost tree beer season! Help us celebrate by registering for our next “Trees on Tap” event at Fonta Flora – keep an eye out for the future registration link.
- Friday, October 23: 70 new trees will be added to a section of Long Creek Greenway, in our effort to continue to grow the public tree canopy in this area. Help us plant some new trees!
- Saturday, October 24: What better way to spend a lovely Fall Saturday morning than planting trees with us? Join us at Tuckaseegee Elementary School to help plant 80 trees on their school grounds!
- Sunday, October 25: Treasure Tree #096, Yellow Poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera) is a whooping 274.2″ in circumference. Go visit this tree on the grounds of Duke Mansion!
- Monday, October 26: Donating to our mission helps us continue to grow Mecklenburg County’s tree canopy. Considering donating to help us raise funds for October Tree Month!
- Tuesday, October 27: As a small team, we literally could not do all of the important work that we do without our dedicated TreeMAK Team. Consider becoming a TreeMaster to help us with our TreeDay plantings and our TreeAdoptions by signing up for our next training in January.

- Thursday, October 29: We’re partnering with NCWF on this day to plant 120 trees alongside some very important understory plants.
- Friday, October 30: What better to be, than to be a tree? Steal the look and start designing your favorite tree outfit for Halloween.
- Saturday, October 31: Happy Halloween! We’ll be in the Carmel Chace community this morning planting 103 trees. Come join us – Halloween costumes (especially TREEspired ones) are highly recommended.
