Support TreesCharlotte in celebration of NC Arbor Day, March 22

Help us grow Charlotte’s canopy and celebrate NC Arbor Day!

North Carolina Arbor Day is a day that is about more than planting trees; it’s a celebration of our commitment to the environment, sustainability, and community.

Any level of donation is greatly appreciated, but we encourage you to consider the following in celebration of NC Arbor Day and trees:

  • $57 – Number of years since the NC Legislature declared that the first Friday following March 15 would be the Tar Heel state’s Arbor Day (1967); most states observe a separate Arbor Day on a date of their choosing in accordance with the best tree-planting times.
  • $157 – Number of years since the very first Arbor Day was held. Julius Sterling Morton first proposed a tree-planting holiday to be called “Arbor Day” at a meeting of the State Board of Agriculture in Nebraska. The date was set for April 10, 1872. (National Arbor Day is held the last Friday in April, this year April 26).
  • $250 – Number of pounds of oxygen on average that one tree produces each year. A mature leafy tree produces as much oxygen in a season as 10 people inhale in a year.
  • $2,500 – Number of seedlings we will distribute during March and April at outreach events, culminating at our 2nd annual TreeFest on April 27!
  • $5,000 – Individual donors at this level will help our overall mission and be recognized with a leaf in the TreesCharlotte Honorary Garden at Freedom Park.
