Building Community through Trees

Treesilience is a program from TreesCharlotte that focuses on tree equity, or the idea that everyone deserves access to trees and their benefits, no matter where they live. Our goal is to protect and grow the tree canopy in neighborhoods that are under-canopied and underserved.
Currently, we work in four Charlotte neighborhoods: Ramblewood, McCrorey Heights, Greenville, and Historic Hoskins. These neighborhoods have 40% tree canopy or less, while the city’s average is about 47%. That difference matters, as less tree cover means more heat, more pollution, and fewer health benefits in these communities.
Participation comes at no cost to community members in these neighborhoods, as we rely on the support of grant funding and corporate partners to fund this initiative. Treesilience is more than a tree planting program. It’s a three-year investment in each neighborhood, a long-term plan to create lasting changes.
