#128 American Elm (Ulmus americana)

This big elm was nominated by the homeowner in 2021, and it stands in the backyard on private property. An Arborist once told the owner that it likely sprouted shortly after Dutch elm disease wiped out elms in Charlotte, which would have been the mid-1900s. The disease is caused by a fungus which is spread by bark beetles.
