This Dogwood was nominated for state champion (biggest specimen in the state) in 1994 and exceeded the champion at that time by 2 points. The four main leaders were trimmed in 1995 and the tree has since died.

Mature Azure butterflies are attracted to this tree and females will lay eggs on Dogwoods. The fruit is eaten by virtually all animals in Charlotte’s ecosystems, from songbirds to white-tailed deer.
