TREASURE TREES

#005 Osage Orange (Grove) (Maclura pomifera)

This Osage Orange grove is located at Historic Rosedale. According to the home site's history: In 1857, Robert Baxter Caldwell, the third generation to live on the plantation, brought these trees to the property as a hedgerow, known as a living fence. The grove caught fire in the 1960s but the trees sprouted back from the ground shortly after. The location of the grove is back by the Swamp Chestnut Oak (#006) on the Treasure Tree list. No statistics are available since this is a grove rather than a specific tree.
