TreeMAK Guidelines

Safety Comes First
Our events are designed to be fun, educational, and hands-on, but safety always comes first. Before participating, all volunteers and TreeMAKs must complete the required liability waiver.

See Something? Say Something!
If someone is injured, even if it seems minor, please notify TreesCharlotte staff.

  • Minor injuries can be addressed through our first-aid process.
  • Serious or emergency situations should immediately be brought to staff.
  • Staff will handle incident documentation and emergency procedures.
  • Your job isn’t to handle the situation alone but to get staff involved.

Dress for the Trees!
Please wear clothing that is:

  • Appropriate for an outdoor volunteer event.
  • Free of offensive, discriminatory, or inappropriate language or imagery.
  • Please wear your TreesCharlotte TreeMAK hat when attending events and feel free to show off your earned TreesCharlotte swag!

Be Kind. Be Respectful.
Treat volunteers, staff, community members, partners, and fellow TreeMAKs with respect. Bullying, discrimination, harassment, racial slurs, unwanted physical contact, or inappropriate behavior are not acceptable.

Photos & Sharing on Social Media
Remember that our community members’ privacy and comfort come first. Before Taking a Photo……Ask first. Keep photos respectful, appropriate, and connected to TreesCharlotte’s mission.
Please do not post photos or videos of children, vulnerable individuals, or community members without TreesCharlotte authorization.

“Can I Speak for TreesCharlotte?”
You can share our mission and public information, but you don’t have to speak for the organization. TreeMAKs should not independently:

  • Make official statements on behalf of TreesCharlotte.
  • Negotiate with partners or outside organizations.
  • Make commitments or promises on behalf of TreesCharlotte.
  • Contact external partners or government organizations on TreesCharlotte’s behalf.
  • Instead, connect the person with TreesCharlotte staff.
