Summer/Early Fall 2019 TreeAmbassador opportunities

Hello and happy summer, TreeAmbassadors! Long time, no pleas from Jen – but I’m back! We’ve had a few items come up that need TreeAmbassadors this summer/early fall. They are each listed here. If you can help, fill out the correct form and we’ll get you scheduled. Thanks!

1. Freedom School: Tuesday, July 16

Freedom School is a summer program for at-risk children. It’s held at schools, churches and community centers throughout Charlotte for kids in grades K-8. For the second year in a row, TreesCharlotte is teaching a tree curriculum at some of the schools. We have one shift that needs two volunteers. Details:

  • Tuesday, July 16
  • 12:30-2:30 p.m.
  • Berewick Elementary, 5910 Dixie River Rd Charlotte, NC 28278
  • Approximately 30 kids in grades 3-5.

I will be there with all the materials you need – facts about trees, some crafts for the kids to do, outdoor activities, etc. Since the actual instruction begins at 1 p.m., we’ll have 30 minutes to walk through the materials.

Good candidates for this TreeAmbassador opportunity have high energy, a loud voice and a lot of patience and creativity. The kids are super fun and inquisitive, but you have got to keep things moving to keep their attention. If you can help, please fill out this form:

2. Lincoln Heights National Night Out

The neighborhood of Lincoln Heights in north Charlotte has invited TreesCharlotte to set up a table at its National Night Out. Details:

  • Tuesday, Aug. 6
  • 4:30-8 p.m.
  • Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Park, 1800 Catherine Simmons Ave., Charlotte, 28216

Organizers expect 200 people to attend. Before the event, you’ll need to pick up our TreesCharlotte tent, table and event supplies, including tree cookie necklaces for kids! If you can help, please fill out this form:

3. Farmers Market: Saturday, Sept. 14 and Oct. 19.

The Cotswold Farmers Market has invited TreesCharlotte to set up an information table for two Saturdays this fall season. Details:

  • Saturday, Sept. 14 and Oct. 19
  • 8 a.m.-noon
  • Parking lot of an urgent care at corner of Sharon Amity and Randolph Road

We’ve divided each Saturday into two-hour blocks, with one person volunteering/shift. If you can help at either date, please fill out this form:

Sign-ups for this event are limited to TreeAmbassadors/TreeMasters.
