With generous support from OneTree Planted, TreesCharlotte is returning to the campus of Southwest Middle School to do routine maintenance on the trees planted in the Fall, 2018. TreesCharlotte periodically returns to school campuses to ensure that the trees we previously planted continue to thrive. Stewardship events are vital to our mission of expanding Charlotte’s tree canopy.
WHERE: Southwest Middle School, 13624 Steele Creek Road, Charlotte 28273. Volunteer check-in and parking will be in the bus lot to the right of the school. Look for signs and the TreesCharlotte truck.
WHEN: Wednesday, April 8 – 10:00 to 11:30am (approximate finish time). Please arrive On Time and proceed to volunteer check-in.
WHAT TO WEAR/BRING: Volunteers are asked to bring work gloves and to wear closed toed shoes appropriate for digging. Keep in mind you will get dirty. All necessary tools (shovels and rakes) will be provided as well as water for the volunteers.
WHAT TO EXPECT: Volunteers will help distribute and spread fresh mulch around trees. Tree events are held rain or shine. CMS requires that all volunteers on campus check-in at the front desk. You must have a driver’s license to register in their system. You will then go to the volunteer check-in table and sign a liability waiver. Following opening remarks, you will be trained on how to properly care for trees and staff will be with you throughout the morning to guide you.
