Want an easy and inexpensive way to make Elizabeth a healthier, cooler and even more beautiful place to live? Plant trees!
TreesCharlotte is partnering with Elizabeth to offer free trees to neighborhood residents during/after the Elizabeth 8K. TreesCharlotte normally brings about 20 trees to give away at the race, but this year, thanks to neighborhood leadership, we’re bringing even more trees and inviting Elizabeth residents to a special TreeStore just for you.
All trees are in 7-gallon containers, measure 5-10 feet tall and are 3-4 years old. Most are large maturing trees, intended to replace older trees that have died or are near the end of their lives. Because these trees often take a long time to grow, it’s important to proactively plant to keep the canopy strong.
Residents can get up to 3 free trees per address at the event. Unlike at most TreeStores, where the trees are first come, first served, residents of Elizabeth can choose their species ahead of time and pick them up at the race.
TreesCharlotte will have experts on hand the day of the event to answer questions about the trees and teach all recipients how to properly plant them.
Where: Independence Park, 300 Hawthorne Lane.
When: Saturday, March 23, 9:30 a.m. Trees must be picked up by 10 a.m.
Deadline to register for trees is Monday, March 18.
