SUMMARY:TreeMaster/TreeAmbassador Certification Course\, Sept. 2021
DESCRIPTION:What is a TreeMaster? \nA TreeMaster is a volunteer who has received training on volunteer management\, proper planting techniques and care and maintenance of trees.  TreeMasters serve as volunteer leaders at our planting events and TreeAdoptions throughout Charlotte.  They help with event setup\, tree and mulch placement\, volunteer engagement\, and event breakdown. \nWhat is a TreeAmbassador? \nTreeAmbassadors represent TreesCharlotte at various outreach events. They are enthusiastic about TreesCharlotte and can deliver a positive and clear message about our mission. Candidates should be comfortable both talking to an audience and listening to their comments and concerns. It will be your job to help educate the public about our beautiful canopy\, the risks facing it and how everybody can help protect it. Typical events include manning a table at festivals or speaking in front of a school class. As public-facing opportunities arise\, we will equip you with an event box complete with key facts\, fun stuff to give away\, important literature and whatever else is required! \nCan I be both? \nYes! \nHow do I become a TreeMaster and/or TreeAmbassador? \nAnybody interested must attend this free online workshop\, featuring the history of TreesCharlotte\, our planting practices\, and a Q&A.  Training is suited for all levels of arboriculture knowledge.  Upon completion of the certification course\, graduates will be provided opportunities to put their knowledge into action by serving as volunteer leaders.  The tree planting season in Charlotte runs from October to early April. Outreach events are year-round. Once you register\, you will be sent the link to the online course the week of the event.  \nWhat is the time commitment? \nTreeMasters are asked to commit to volunteer at a minimum of 3 regularly scheduled tree planting events annually (each about 5 hours).TreeAmbassadors are asked to volunteer at a minimum of 3 outreach events annually (each about 3 hours). \nHow do I sign up? \nYou must be at least 18 years of age and register by completing the application below.  Deadline to register is 11:59 p.m.\, Sept. 12.

SUMMARY:Season Opening Citywide TreeAdoption - SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:Fall is a wonderful time of year to add the beauty and health of trees to your yard. Lucky for you\, we’re giving plenty of trees away at our Opening Day City-wide TreeAdoption!  \nWe’ll have a big mix of species\, from small flowering to canopy building to evergreen screening. There’s something for everybody. We thank One Tree Planted for helping to sponsor this TreeAdoption. \nDid you know that fall is the best time to plant a tree? Fall gives your new tree several months of cooler weather so that it can concentrate on root establishment rather than leaf production. And\, the fall and winter tend to be rainy – nature’s tree watering system. \nWe are SOLD OUT of trees!\nHere’s what you need to know:  \n\nYou must pre-register. Registration opens at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday\, September 21 (link will be posted above on Sept. 21) and closes when trees “sell out” or at 11:59 p.m. Thursday\, September 23.  Scroll down to below the list of species we’re offering for the link to register. \nEach Charlotte address/household can get up to 2 trees. While the registration form does not limit the total number of trees\, households requesting more than 2 trees will be notified and removed. Proof of residency within the city (ie: driver’s license\, utility bill\, etc) must be shown at the event.\nWe are continuing to implement staggered pickup times. On the registration form\, you will choose a time frame to pick up your trees. \nAt the TreeAdoption\, you will be taught how to properly plant and care for your tree(s).  Tree training is mandatory.\nAbout the trees: The trees are in 3\, 5\, and 7-gallon containers\, measure 6-10 feet tall\, and weigh about 10-15 pounds. The mulch weighs 25 pounds/bag. Links to the species we are offering are provided below.  Please do your homework first to ensure you’re putting the right tree in the right place. Once registered\, selections are final and cannot be changed.\nTreesCharlotte will send a follow-up email with planting instructions – including a planting video – watering instructions and specific information about the species you select.\nTreesCharlotte’s mission is to help the City of Charlotte reach its goal of 50% tree canopy by 2050.  We\, therefore\, limit participation to residents within Charlotte city limits.  At this time\, we do not serve Matthews\, Mint Hill\, Pineville\, Huntersville\, Davidson\, Cornelius\, Mecklenburg County or other municipalities outside Charlotte.\n\nTreesCharlotte is a non-profit organization that relies on donations to be able to host events like this. Donations are greatly appreciated and help us give more trees to Charlotte residents. If interested please click HERE.  \nThe trees below will be available. All species are subject to change. Quantities are limited. Register early to ensure the best selection. \nSelections are final and once registered\, cannot be changed.  Be sure to research which tree will work best for your yard before registering. \n\n \nAutumn Brilliance Serviceberry\n\n \nServiceberry\n\n\n\n \nForest Pansy Redbud\n\n \nRedbud\n\n\n\n \nRiver Birch\n\n \nRiver Birch\n\n\n\n \nMaple\n\n \nMaple\n\n\n\n \nHornbeam\n\n \nHornbeam\n\n\n\n \nHolly\n\n \nHolly\n\n\n\n \nGinkgo\n\n \nGinkgo\n\n\n\n \nChinese Juniper\n\n \nChinese Juniper\n\n\n\n \nCrape Myrtle\n\n \nCrape Myrtle\n\n\n\n \nSwamp White Oak\n\n \nSwamp White Oak\n\n\n\n \nShumard Oak\n\n \nShumard Oak\n\n\n\n \nGreen Giant Arborvitae\n\n \nArborvitae\n\n\n\n \nBlackgum\n\n \nBlackgum\n\n\n\n \nYoshino Cherry\n\n \nYoshino Cherry\n\n\n  \nWe’re looking for 8 TreeMasters to help with traffic\, check-in\, and moving trees. SUMMARY:Stewardship at Mallard Creek High School
DESCRIPTION:TreesCharlotte is returning to the campus of Mallard Creek High School to do routine maintenance on the trees planted in the past. TreesCharlotte periodically returns to school campuses to ensure that the trees we previously planted continue to thrive.   \nWe love our volunteers\, however\, general volunteers are not needed for this event.   \nStewardship events are vital to our mission of expanding Charlotte’s tree canopy and are a great team building opportunity. If your group is interested in hosting a Stewardship event\, contact Zack Agerton. \nWe are in need of 3 TreeMasters to help direct volunteers.  Learn more about the TreeMaster program here.
