SUMMARY:Brightwalk TreeDay Event
DESCRIPTION:Thanks to the generous support of Novant Health\, TreesCharlotte will be planting approximately 50 trees in the Brightwalk neighborhood. \nTo ensure a safe and enjoyable event\, we are limiting the number of volunteers to 25 for this TreeDay. Register early as our events “sell out” quickly. Only 10 spots remaining. \nTree planting events are great for families and everyone is welcome. To ensure accurate active volunteer counts\, please list all participants on the registration form\, along with children’s ages. Children 16 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. \nEvents are held rain or shine.  A modest rainfall actually provides ideal planting conditions. \nDeadline to register is Monday\, October 1. \nOnce registered\, more detailed information will be emailed to you the week of the event. \nTreeMasters\, please register here to keep track of your hours. \n

SUMMARY:Breathe Free\, CLT: A Free TreeStore
DESCRIPTION:Are you a resident of Charlotte?  Do you need some trees for your yard? Thanks to the generous support of Novant Health\, TreesCharlotte is bringing its Regional TreeStore to Camp North End. \n\nEach Charlotte household is eligible for up to two free trees.\nTreesCharlotte’s mission is to help the City of Charlotte reach their goal of 50% tree canopy by 2050.  We therefore limit our efforts to expand the canopy within Charlotte’s city limits and limit participation to Charlotte residents only (unfortunately\, we do not serve Matthews\, Mint Hill\, Pineville\, Huntersville\, Davidson\, Cornelius\, other municipalities outside Charlotte\, or Mecklenburg County).\nProof of Charlotte residency (such as a driver’s license\, utility bill\, etc.) must be shown at the event in order to participate.\nA valid email address is required to register.\nYou will complete and sign a Stewardship Pledge Form (mandatory) and declare your pledge to take care of the tree(s) we provide.\nAt the TreeStore\, you will be trained on how to properly plant and care for your tree(s).  Tree training is mandatory.\nWe cannot guarantee species type or quantities and will not know what will be available until the morning of the event.\nTrees are in 7-gallon containers\, range from 6-10′ tall\, and will not be reserved or transported.\n\n\n \nDuring the Breathe Free\, CLT Tree Store\, guests can enjoy lunch at the Kiwanis’ Under the Canopy Chili Cookoff from 11:00-2:00 in the Boileryard at Camp North End. A $5 donation given at the event gets you into this charity event\, where teams from throughout the city compete to become the chili champion. A portion of the proceeds will benefit TreesCharlotte educational programming in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.  Purchase tickets here. \nIntereted in sponsoring the cookoff or entering a team? Contact Terri Shidal\,  \n\nPre-registration has closed. \nGet through the line quicker by pre-registering in advance!  (Note: Pre-registering does not guarantee you trees or tree varieties; it simply allows you to bypass the paperwork line and get through the process faster) \nPre-registration is limited to the first 250 registrants.  Deadline to register is October 2.\nVolunteers (limited to 15\, 0 spots remaining) and TreeMasters are needed to help move and distribute trees and mulch to participants. Volunteers\, please complete the form below to register.  We have reached capacity for volunteers. \n\nTrees are available on a first come first served basis and are limited in quantity.  We plan to have\, although not guaranteed to be available\, the following species to choose from: \n\n\n\nAmerican Hornbeam\n\n\nAutumn Gold Gingko\n\n\nBloodgood Japanese Maple\n\n\nBosque Elm\n\n\nBrandywine Red Maple\n\n\nChestnut Oak\n\n\nDura Heat River Birch\n\n\nGreen Vase Zelkova\n\n\nPersimmon\n\n\nWhite Oak\n\n\nYellow Wood

SUMMARY:Community Orchard at Reeder Memorial Baptist Church
DESCRIPTION:TreesCharlotte is partnering with Mecklenburg County Health Department\, Reeder Memorial Baptist Church\, and NC Cooperative Extension to plant 28 fruit trees in Northeast Charlotte. \nThe purpose of the initiative is to develop an urban orchard in an effort to increase access and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables for residents in the Beatties Ford Road Corridor of Mecklenburg County.  Fruit trees will be planted and harvested by Reeder Memorial Baptist Church parishioners and residents of communities surrounding the church. Food will be distributed according to criteria which is still being developed. Ultimately\, the program could be used as a template for other faith-based organizations to begin similar initiatives. \nWe love our volunteers\, however\, general volunteers are not needed for this event.  Please check the events calendar for other volunteer opportunities. \nWe are looking for 2 experienced TreeMasters that are comfortable taking a more active role in organizing\, setting up and managing volunteers before and during the event. \nOops! We could not locate your form.
