SUMMARY:Community Orchard at Rockwell AME Zion Church
DESCRIPTION:TreesCharlotte is partnering with Mecklenburg County Health Department\, Rockwell AME Zion Church\, NC Cooperative Extension\, and the Derita Community to plant 23 fruit trees in Northeast Charlotte. \nThe purpose of the initiative is to develop an urban orchard in an effort to increase access and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables for residents in the Northeast Corridor of Mecklenburg County. The orchard will be on the property of Rockwell AME Zion Church. Fruit trees will be planted and harvested by Rockwell AME Zion Church parishioners and residents of communities surrounding the church. Food will be distributed according to criteria which is still being developed. Ultimately\, the program could be used as a template for other faith-based organizations to begin similar initiatives. \nWe love our volunteers\, however\, general volunteers are not needed for this event.  Please check the events calendar for other volunteer opportunities.
