SUMMARY:Community Orchard at Reeder Memorial Baptist Church
DESCRIPTION:TreesCharlotte is partnering with Mecklenburg County Health Department\, Reeder Memorial Baptist Church\, and NC Cooperative Extension to plant 28 fruit trees in Northeast Charlotte. \nThe purpose of the initiative is to develop an urban orchard in an effort to increase access and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables for residents in the Beatties Ford Road Corridor of Mecklenburg County.  Fruit trees will be planted and harvested by Reeder Memorial Baptist Church parishioners and residents of communities surrounding the church. Food will be distributed according to criteria which is still being developed. Ultimately\, the program could be used as a template for other faith-based organizations to begin similar initiatives. \nWe love our volunteers\, however\, general volunteers are not needed for this event.  Please check the events calendar for other volunteer opportunities. \nWe are looking for 2 experienced TreeMasters that are comfortable taking a more active role in organizing\, setting up and managing volunteers before and during the event. \nOops! Contact Terri Shidal\,  \n\nPre-registration has closed. \nGet through the line quicker by pre-registering in advance!  (Note: Pre-registering does not guarantee you trees or tree varieties; it simply allows you to bypass the paperwork line and get through the process faster) \nPre-registration is limited to the first 250 registrants.  Deadline to register is October 2.\nVolunteers (limited to 15\, 0 spots remaining) and TreeMasters are needed to help move and distribute trees and mulch to participants. SUMMARY:TreeMaster/TreeAmbassador Certification Course\, Sept. 2018
DESCRIPTION:What is a TreeMaster? \nA TreeMaster is a volunteer who has received training on volunteer management\, proper planting techniques and care and maintenance of trees.  TreeMasters serve as volunteer leaders at our planting events and TreeStores throughout Charlotte.  They help with event setup\, tree and mulch placement\, volunteer engagement\, and event breakdown. \nWhat is a TreeAmbassador? \nTreeAmbassadors represent TreesCharlotte at various outreach events. They are enthusiastic about TreesCharlotte and can deliver a positive and clear message about our mission. Candidates should be comfortable both talking to an audience and listening to their comments and concerns. It will be your job to help educate the public about our beautiful canopy\, the risks facing it and how everybody can help protect it. Typical events include manning a table at festivals or speaking in front of a school class. As public-facing opportunities arise\, we will equip you with an event box complete with key facts\, fun stuff to give away\, important literature and whatever else is required! \nCan I be both? \nYes! \nHow do I become a TreeMaster and/or TreeAmbassador? \nAnybody interested must attend this free 3-hour workshop\, featuring indoor and outdoor instruction\, presentations on the history of TreesCharlotte and hands-on demonstrations.  Training is suited for all levels of arboriculture knowledge.  Upon completion of the certification course\, graduates will be provided opportunities to put their knowledge into action by serving as volunteer leaders.  The tree planting season in Charlotte runs from October to early April. Outreach events are year-round. \nWhat is the time commitment? \nTreeMasters are asked to commit to volunteer at a minimum of 3 regularly scheduled tree planting events annually (each about 5 hours).TreeAmbassadors are asked to volunteer at a minimum of 3 outreach events annually (each about 3 hours). \nHow do I sign up? \nYou must be at least 18 years of age and register by completing the application below.

SUMMARY:Color The Canopy Opening Party

SUMMARY:TreesCharlotte fundraiser at Legion Brewing
DESCRIPTION:Here’s a triple treat: Running\, craft beer and TreesCharlotte! Legion Brewing and the Elizabeth 8k are hosting a fundraiser just for TreesCharlotte. For every pint purchased from the brewery’s Adventure Tap\, $1 goes to TreesCharlotte. \nWhile the Adventure Tap will benefit TreesCharlotte for the entire month of March (so go to Legion all month and pick the beer behind the Adventure Tap label!)\, tonight we’ll blow it out with drawings for cool swag from TreesCharlotte\, Elizabeth 8K and Legion. Throughout the evening\, we’ll have a full agenda if you want to do more than sip great beer: The Legiondary Run Club takes off for a 4.4-mile run around Plaza Midwood (burn those beer carbs) at 6:30 p.m. and Music Bingo kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Plus\, there just might be a Rooty sighting! \nIn addition\, you’ll be able to register for the Elizabeth 8K\, a beautiful race on March 24 that winds through historic Elizabeth. A big thank you to the Elizabeth 8K for picking TreesCharlotte as a beneficiary.
