SUMMARY:Final Season Ending Citywide Drive-thru TreeStore
DESCRIPTION:Thank you to the many Charlotteans that have registered to get trees.  Registration is now closed.  We will see you again in late September. \nThis is it. Our final Season End Citywide Drive-thru TreeStore.  We have a limited number of large maturing trees that are in need of new homes. \nWe want to thank our partnership with Duke Energy/Piedmont Natural Gas as well as Lending Tree\, the Charlotte 2020 Host Committee and the 2020 Convention Planners for making this event possible. \nTo ensure the event follows social distancing guidelines\, some details are different from our typical TreeStores\, so read carefully: \nHere’s what you need to know:  \n\nYou must pre-register for trees. Registration opens Sunday\, May 24 and closes at midnight Tuesday\, May 26.  Scroll down to below the list of species for the link.\nEach Charlotte address/household can get up to 3 trees.\nTrees will be given out on a first come\, first served basis.  Please do research ahead of time to know which trees will work best for your yard.  Links are provided below to learn more about the trees. We will not be able to answer any tree related questions at the event.\nThis TreeStore will be drive-thru only to limit personal contact. You will be expected to load your own trees and mulch. Neighbors are encouraged to work together to pick up multiple orders with one vehicle.\nAbout the trees: The trees are in 7-gallon containers\, measure 6-15 feet tall and weigh about 20-25 pounds. The mulch weighs 25 pounds/bag. As you’ll see below\, you have 10 species to choose from. Links are provided to learn more about each species; please do your homework first to ensure you’re putting the right tree in the right place.\nImportant note: TreesCharlotte typically does not distribute trees this late in the spring – newly planted trees fare better when there’s cooler weather ahead. We hope that with your love and care\, they will flourish once planted. But if they don’t\, we’ll be back in the fall with more TreeStores!\nTreesCharlotte will send a follow-up email with planting instructions – including a planting video – watering instructions and specific information about the species you select.\nTreesCharlotte’s mission is to help the City of Charlotte reach its goal of 50% tree canopy by 2050.  We\, therefore\, limit participation to residents within Charlotte city limits.  At this time\, we do not serve Matthews\, Mint Hill\, Pineville\, Huntersville\, Davidson\, Cornelius\, Mecklenburg County or other municipalities outside Charlotte.\n\nTreesCharlotte is a non-profit organization that relies on donations to be able to host events like this.  A suggested donation of $10/tree is greatly appreciated and would help us give more trees to Charlotte residents. \nThe following trees will be given out on a first come\, first served basis (registration link below opens May 24).  \nBe sure to research which tree will work best for your yard.  We will not be able to answer any questions at the event. \n\n \nBlackgum\n\n \nBlackgum – 2 available\n\n\n\n \nPrinceton Elm\n\n \nElm – 12 available\n\n\n\n \nGinkgo\n\n \nGinkgo – 2 available\n\n\n\n \nNellie Stevens Holly\n\n \nHolly – 4 available\n\n\n\n \nAmerican Hornbeam\n\n \nHornbeam – 7 available\n\n\n\n \nNuttall Oak\n\n \nOak\, Nuttall – 1 available\n\n\n\n \nOvercup Oak\n\n \nOak\, Overcup – 16 available\n\n\n\n \nShumard Oak\n\n \nOak\, Shumard – 14 available\n\n\n\n \nSwamp White Oak\n\n \nOak\, Swamp White – 2 available\n\n\n\n \nWillow Oak\n\n \nOak\, Willow – 20 available\n\n\nRegistration has closed. SUMMARY:TreeMaster/TreeAmbassador Certification Course\, Sept. 2020
DESCRIPTION:What is a TreeMaster? \nA TreeMaster is a volunteer who has received training on volunteer management\, proper planting techniques and care and maintenance of trees.  TreeMasters serve as volunteer leaders at our planting events and TreeStores throughout Charlotte.  They help with event setup\, tree and mulch placement\, volunteer engagement\, and event breakdown. \nWhat is a TreeAmbassador? \nTreeAmbassadors represent TreesCharlotte at various outreach events. They are enthusiastic about TreesCharlotte and can deliver a positive and clear message about our mission. Candidates should be comfortable both talking to an audience and listening to their comments and concerns. It will be your job to help educate the public about our beautiful canopy\, the risks facing it and how everybody can help protect it. Typical events include manning a table at festivals or speaking in front of a school class. As public-facing opportunities arise\, we will equip you with an event box complete with key facts\, fun stuff to give away\, important literature and whatever else is required! \nCan I be both? \nYes! \nHow do I become a TreeMaster and/or TreeAmbassador? \nAnybody interested must attend this free online workshop\, featuring the history of TreesCharlotte\, our planting practices\, and a Q&A.  Training is suited for all levels of arboriculture knowledge.  Upon completion of the certification course\, graduates will be provided with opportunities to put their knowledge into action by serving as volunteer leaders.  The tree planting season in Charlotte runs from October to early April. Outreach events are year-round. If you register\, you will be sent the link to the online course the week of the event.  \nWhat is the time commitment? \nTreeMasters are asked to commit to volunteer at a minimum of 3 regularly scheduled tree planting events annually (each about 5 hours).TreeAmbassadors are asked to volunteer at a minimum of 3 outreach events annually (each about 3 hours). \nHow do I sign up? \nYou must be at least 18 years of age and register by completing the application below.  Deadline to register is 11:59 p.m.\, Sept. 9.

SUMMARY:Stewardship at Barringer Academic Center
DESCRIPTION:For this Workday Wednesday\, TreesCharlotte is returning to the campus of Barringer Academic Center to do routine maintenance on the trees planted in the Fall\, 2017.  TreesCharlotte periodically returns to school campuses to ensure that the trees we previously planted continue to thrive.  Stewardship events are vital to our mission of expanding Charlotte’s tree canopy. \nWe love our volunteers\, however\, general volunteers are not needed for this event.  Please check the events calendar for other opportunities highlighted in blue. \nStewardship Events are a great team building activity. If you’re interested in attending one with your teammates\, contact Heike Biller for available dates.  \nWe are in need of 1-2 TreeMasters to help direct volunteers.  Learn more about the TreeMaster program here.

SUMMARY:Randolph Middle School TreeDay
DESCRIPTION:While TreesCharlotte strives to celebrate\, expand\, and protect the tree canopy in Charlotte\, we also want to protect the health of our supporters\, volunteers\, and partners from risks associated with COVID-19.  We appreciate your continued interest in volunteering with us even in these difficult times. Please read through our new event protocols here before registering to volunteer. \nTreesCharlotte is excited to plant approximately 100 trees around the Randolph Middle School campus. \nTo ensure a safe and enjoyable event\, we are limiting the number of volunteers to 50 for this TreeDay.  Register early as our events “sell out” quickly.   0 spots remain. \nTree planting events are great for families and all ages are welcome. To ensure we operate within State and CDC guidelines\, we are limiting participation to 50 volunteers and are requiring a registration form for each volunteer\, adults and children alike. We cannot accept walk-up volunteers at the event. Children 16 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. \nVolunteer groups of 10 or more\, please contact events director\, Heike Biller to determine if there is enough capacity. \nEvents are held rain or shine. Details of the event will be emailed to registered volunteers the week of the event. \nDeadline to register is Sunday\, February 14.   \nThanks to all the TreeMasters that have registered\, we now have enough help and are just recruiting general volunteers.
