SUMMARY:POSTPONED- 6th Annual Urban Forestry Summit
DESCRIPTION:Due to the uncertainty of the weather and its impact on the Carolinas\, the Summit is being postponed to January 23\, 2018.  Registration will open shortly.\n \nJoin us for this year’s Urban Forestry Summit. The goal of the Summit is to share in an interesting and interactive discussion of the topics most relevant to our urban forest. \nThe afternoon begins with focused sessions for stakeholders in the tree industry\, from 2:30-5 pm.   At 5 pm\, we’ll open the doors to the public for a cocktail hour\, where we’ll have demos from a local woodworker and two 30-minute workshops: “Right Tree\, Right Place” and “When to Call an Arborist”. \nAt 6 pm\, everybody will convene in the main hall for our main event: A panel discussion of local luminaries who will break down the Urban Forest Master Plan so you can better understand why it was created\, what its goals are and what we all need to do to make those goals real. Slated to sit on the panel: City Arborist Tim Porter\, developer Terrence Llewellyn of Llewellyn Development and community leader Theresa Rosa with Prosperity Village Area Association. Local meteorologist Brad Panovich will moderate. \nFollowing the panel discussion\, guests are invited to watch the documentary\, Felled.  Felled is a story about finding worth and beauty in something most consider to be trash. The film chronicles the journey of an urban pine tree downed by a summer storm and saved from the landfill by two woodworkers who give the tree new meaning as a family dinner table. Through interviews with industry experts\, sawyers\, arborists\, artists\, and woodworkers\, including both Norm Abram and Nick Offerman\, the film highlights the growing urban lumber movement and explores themes of waste\, craftsmanship\, and redemption. \nReserve your spot today! Simply register for this free event below.  Deadline to register is Sunday\, September 10. \nAgenda \n2:30-5:00 pm – Stakeholder program intended for industry related folks and will include small breakout sessions (space is limited to 70 participants) \n5:00-6:00 pm – Cocktails and light hors d’oeuvres\, stakeholders and the general public are invited for networking and socializing\, Concurrent classes – “When to Call an Arborist” and “Right Tree Right Place – Tree 101: all you need to know about tree selection\, planting and early tree care” \n6:00-8:00 pm – Evening program\, panel discussion focusing on Charlotte’s Urban Forest Master Plan and screening of the movie Felled \n(space is limited to 300 participants)
