DESCRIPTION:As part of our weeklong celebration of Arbor Day\, City of Charlotte arborists and TreesCharlotte staff will talk about Charlotte’s grand history with trees\, sharing stories from the early days of some of its most treasured neighborhoods to our innovative approaches to preserving the canopy today.  \nFruit\, pastries and coffee provided courtesy of host SouthMinister. The talk begins at 10 a.m.\, doors open at 9:30 a.m. \n(No volunteers are needed for this event)

SUMMARY:32nd Annual Elizabeth 8k Road Race
DESCRIPTION:The Elizabeth 8K Road Race is Charlotte’s oldest road race and features a new USATF-certified course (certificate #tbd)\, providing runners with a fantastic tour of the scenic residential and commercial streets of the Elizabeth neighborhood. In addition to the 8K\, there is also a 1.5M run/walk and the Liz Kids’ Fun Run for the youngest runners. \nThe event begins and ends near Independence Park Recreation Center at Independence Park (345 Hawthorne Lane\, Charlotte NC\, 28204). Participants that register by March 9 will enjoy Elizabeth 8K racing shirts. Proceeds benefit the beautification of the Historic Elizabeth Neighborhood and the replenishing of both Charlotte and Elizabeth’s tree canopies. \nFor more information or to register for the event\, please visit www.elizabeth8k.com. \nTreesCharlotte will host a small TreeStore after the race\, giving away 7 gallon sized\, 6-10′ tall trees to the residents of Elizabeth.  We cannot guarantee species type or quantities.  You will be trained on how to properly plant and care for your tree(s).  Tree training is mandatory.  You will then be asked to complete and sign a Stewardship Pledge Form with your home  and email address (mandatory) and declare your pledge to take care of the tree(s) we provide. Trees are available on a first come\, first served basis as quantities are limited. \nThanks for you interest in volunteering\, we have enough TreeMasters for this event.
