SUMMARY:Community Orchard
DESCRIPTION:TreesCharlotte is partnering with Mecklenburg County Health Department\, Friendship Missionary Baptist Church\, NC Cooperative Extension\, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation\, and Rosa Parks Farmers Market Community Advisory Council to plant 22 fruit trees in Northwest Charlotte. \nThe purpose of the initiative is to develop an urban orchard in an effort to increase access and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables for residents in the Northwest Corridor of Mecklenburg County. The orchard will be on the property of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and will be part of a Mecklenburg County Park that is being developed on that site. Fruit trees will be planted and harvested by Friendship Missionary Baptist Church parishioners and residents of communities surrounding the church. Food will be distributed according to criteria which is still being developed. Ultimately\, the program could be used as a template for other faith-based organizations to begin similar initiatives. \nWe love our volunteers\, however\, general volunteers are not needed for this event.  Please check the events calendar for other volunteer opportunities.

SUMMARY:Hidden Valley Elementary TreeDay Event
DESCRIPTION:TreesCharlotte will be planting approximately 170 trees on the campus of Hidden Valley Elementary. \nTo ensure a safe and enjoyable event\, we are limiting the number of volunteers to 80 for this TreeDay. Register early as our events “sell out” quickly. \nTree planting events are great for families and everyone is welcome. To ensure accurate active volunteer counts\, please list all participants on the registration form\, along with children’s ages. Children 16 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. \nEvents are held rain or shine.  A modest rainfall actually provides ideal planting conditions. \nDeadline to register is Tuesday\, October 11. \nOnce registered\, more detailed information will be emailed to you the week of the event. \nTreeMasters\, if you would like to volunteer at this event\, please click here.
