TREASURE TREES

#008 Willow Oak (Quercus phellos)

This Willow Oak sits on property owned by Charlotte Water that was once a water intake station on Lake Norman but is no longer in use.

Little is confirmed about this tree, but neighbors believe that it stood next to an old farmhouse that was demolished during the construction of Lake Norman in 1959. In 2015 and 2016, this Willow Oak was struck by lightning on two consecutive July 4th holidays! Due to these storms, the tree is in poor condition and the main leader is missing.
